Omar Cruz Cabrera is an award-winning music composer from Puerto Rico, specializing in orchestral music and excelling in film scoring. His compositions draw from a wide palette of global musical genres, blending elements of electroacoustic, choral, and sound design traditions.

He began his musical training at the Escuela Libre de Música in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and later earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Physics Applied to Electronics and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Music from the University of Puerto Rico, where he studied piano, orchestration, and composition. Cruz Cabrera pursued further education at the University of Phoenix, obtaining a Master’s degree in Technology Management (MBA/TM). He also completed the "Specialist Certificate in Orchestration for Film and TV" from Berklee— where he was awarded the prestigious Ed Cherney Scholarship for his outstanding academic performance — and earned a second Master’s degree in Musical Composition with New Technologies from the International University of La Rioja (UNIR) in Spain..

Cruz Cabrera has been recognized with numerous awards. Recently, he received Best Original Score at the Paris Film Awards for the feature film De La Cruz, as well as Best Original Score at both the Florence Film Awards and the Milan Gold Awards (IMDb-qualifying festivals), further cementing his reputation as a distinguished composer. He also composed the score for the feature film Ma’ Despierta, presented at the Venice Production Bridge within La Biennale di Venezia, marking the first Puerto Rican film to be showcased at the film market of the world’s oldest film festival.
Beyond his work as a composer, Cruz Cabrera actively directs and produces music across various projects and tours. He has written music for award-winning short and feature-length films, with his work showcased at internationally recognized festivals such as the Puerto Rico Film Festival, LUSCA Film Festival, Filmapalooza 2024 in Portugal, and others.

Currently, he serves as musical director and co-producer for international artist WILKINS and as music producer and composer for the immersive audiobook of the fantasy novel The Black Hearts: 'The Black Hearts: Book of the Rising Sun' by M. Duviel Irizarry, released worldwide. This 632-page fantasy novel achieved Amazon Bestseller status, ranking #3 in the Folklore & Mythology category. These collaborations highlight Cruz Cabrera’s multifaceted expertise and his ongoing contributions to the music industry.

In addition to his creative work, Cruz Cabrera is an active member of the Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) and is represented by the Independent Artists Group (IAG) for select film and media projects.
In 2025, Cruz Cabrera was invited to join The Recording Academy (GRAMMYs) as a Voting Member, as part of its 2025 New Member Class—further expanding his professional involvement alongside his ongoing membership in the Latin Recording Academy (Latin GRAMMYs).
His work continues to shape the industry, and his music remains an essential element in cinematic storytelling.
